In the watch relief procedure, the deck officer coming on watch shall check the compasses
and course recorder as follows:
● Check master gyro against the steering repeater.
● Check the steering repeater against the course recorder, radar and radio direction finder.
● Check the steering repeater against the magnetic standard compass.
● Check whether all the compass courses steered shown on the wheelhouse blackboard /
indicator board are in accordance with the track plotted on the chart.
● Check whether the course recorder clock is correct and on Universal Time Coordinated
(UTC) and note any adjustment made on the recorder roll and in the logbook.
