第 32 題
📖 題組:
請依下文回答第 31 題至第 35 題: Some people may turn their noses up at natural remedies, but there is one in particular that is attracting the attention of the scientific and medical fields. Tea tree oil, derived mainly from the leaves of Melaleuca alternifolia, has become a popular commodity. As you may have noticed, it has become a popular ingredient in many shampoos, soaps, and cleaning products. But it is the tea tree’s healing properties that have been sparking interest of late. Although tea tree oil, or melaleuca oil, may strike you as a relatively new item on shelves, it has actually been used for thousands of years. Melaleuca alternifolia is a native to New South Wales, Australia, where the aboriginal people used the crushed leaves of the tree to treat cuts and burns. In the 18th century, Captain Cook saw native Australians making tea with the leaves and came up with the name “tea tree.” In the 1920s, Australian doctors discovered that the oil of the tea tree was an effective antiseptic. It soon became a household remedy, and during WWII, all Australian soldiers were issued tea tree oil in their first-aid kits. Following the war, the substance fell out of favor as new medical discoveries were made. However, since the 1980s, interest in tea tree’s properties has grown again. New studies suggest tea tree oil might effectively treat acne, bacterial and fungal infection, dandruff and mites. If the research holds up, perhaps even more products will contain tea tree oil in the near future.
