The statue became an icon of freedom and of the United States, and was a welcoming sight to immigrants arriving from abroad. World-famous streets such as Wall Street and Fifth Avenue are in Manhattan. Over time, Wall Street has become a symbol of the financial markets of the United States as a whole, and New York is home to the world's two largest stock exchanges: the New York Stock Exchange and NASDAQ.
