It comes mainly from the chest or throat. Sometimes, when upset, you may even catch yourself holding your breath without knowing it. Or you may exhale more quickly than you inhale. So whenever you want to calm down, try to breathe to a rhythm. Inhale to the count of three; exhale to the count of four.
