The debate was sparked by a recent university policy proposing a total ban on these tools for assignments. The participants were deeply divided, presenting compelling arguments on both sides. Proponents of AI argued that these tools significantly enhance learning efficiency. They pointed out that AI can serve as a personalized tutor, helping students brainstorm ideas and simplifying complex concepts. Conversely, the opponents, including our professor, raised grave concerns about academic integrity. They argued that heavy reliance on AI might encourage plagiarism and severely hinder the development of students' independent and critical thinking skills. Furthermore, they emphasized the potential widening of the educational gap, as premium AI tools require paid subscriptions.
