The day following Thanksgiving—commonly known as Black Friday—has become one of the busiest shopping days of the year in the United States. Every year, millions of shoppers visit websites and 16 stores on that day, seeking the best deals of the season. But how did this shopping tradition come to be called “Black Friday”?
