So, for many people here, we guajiro beans are giving them some of the nutrients they need. In addition to that, we’re also giving farmers a product to sell. We’re especially important to the Wayuu people, a local tribe. The Wayuu have been farming the land here for centuries. However, they can’t grow and raise animals like they used to. But beans like my friends and me are keeping the tribe and its culture alive. In fact, we even help people grow other foods, too. We add nitrogen to the soil, which helps foods like pumpkins and corn grow. We can’t do all this by ourselves, though. We sometimes need a bit of water, and the farmers here have found ways to get small amounts out of wells, clean it, and spread it on our land. I’m proud to be a guajiro bean. I’m strong, healthy, and easy to get along with. I’m so happy that I can help my Wayuu friends survive.
