【範文】 Offshore islands play an indispensable role in regional economic development by leveraging their unique geographic and natural endowments. They primarily contribute to the broader economy through vibrant tourism, lucrative fishing industries, and strategic resource extraction. Take Penghu, a picturesque archipelago in Taiwan, as a compelling example. Penghu significantly stimulates the regional economy through its thriving tourism sector, attracting hundreds of thousands of visitors annually with its stunning basalt cliffs, pristine beaches, and rich historical heritage. Furthermore, its abundant marine resources support a robust fishing industry, which provides stable livelihoods for residents and supplies high-quality seafood to the main island. Despite these contributions, offshore islands encounter formidable economic and environmental challenges. An overreliance on seasonal tourism often leads to economic instability and a brain drain of young professionals during off-peak months. More alarmingly, the aggressive pursuit of economic growth frequently results in overfishing, resource depletion, and habitat degradation. Striking a delicate balance between maximizing economic output and preserving fragile natural and cultural heritage is therefore paramount. If ecosystems are irreversibly damaged and local traditions are overly commercialized, the very foundation of the islands' economic appeal will inevitably collapse.
